After the "How to set up corporate on-line language training?" webinar and a wave of positive feedback, we prepared a part of it in the form of an article. Here are the five essential questions to ask yourself before implementing a corporate language training program. Preparing an English education program can be daunting - but nothing is black and white. These fundamental questions set out goals that are important to both you and your employees.

What proficiency level should employees reach regard to their position and job description?

Each of us is individual, and this is precisely the approach we must take when evaluating the goals of the educational program. Do your employees need a high level of English to explain complex ideas to international clients, or do they only need a basic level to keep up with industry trends? Language learning takes time, so it's essential to understand what your employees need to achieve and set realistic expectations.

How much time do employees have to learn English? And where and when will their learning take place?

Do your employees have the flexibility to learn English during regular work hours, or will they be expected to put time outside the office? You need to determine whether the lessons take place at work, at home, or a combination of both. Consider what time-space you can give them from working hours. An hour during working hours per week, 15 minutes every day, 10 hours per month? Do individuals have a workplace where they can concentrate? Do they have a computer or smartphone available for this activity? All these aspects will affect the implementation of the program.

How their progress, satisfaction and motivation will be monitored?

The most successful language training programs have "managers" who work closely with employees to ensure they are on the right track to achieving their English learning goals. Identifying these individuals in your organization and ensuring that they align with the goals of your programs will help increase student engagement and satisfaction, which are two key components of the ultimate success of any language learning program.

Is it possible to offer employees additional motivation in connection with language learning?

Employees are much more likely to stay engaged with their English training if they have powerful incentives to do so. Consider how their progress could be linked to performance reviews, KPIs or opportunities for promotion.

What are the metrics for success?

The only way to determine whether your English training program is a success is to identify your goals and a clear method of tracking quantifiable results. These metrics might include proficiency assessment scores, time on task, end-of-unit tests, quantitative and qualitative program satisfaction feedback, evidence of on-the job improvement, and more.
