Project and Portfolio Management 9.x Administration

This course focuses on the tasks and procedures for performing regular maintenance and support of the Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) Center installation. The classroom lab provides a safe training environment for students to download software, install filesystem components and database components, use server tools, and troubleshoot problems with the guidance of an experienced instructor. This course uses the PPM 9.3 lab environment, without PPM installed.

Module 2: PPM Architecture

• Explain the system architecture of PPM Center
• Identify the system configuration options available and choose the one
that is appropriate for your organization
• Explain how PPM Center handles user authentication


Module 3: PPM Installation

• Identify the hardware and software requirements for the PPM Center install
• Complete the PPM Center install


Module 4 – Configuring the PPM Server


• Identify key server configuration parameters
• Use the Server Configuration wizard to update or add server parameters
• Start or stop the PPM application server
• Perform basic troubleshooting on the PPM server


Module 5 – Installing the PPM Client


• Install the client components of the PPM Workbench interface
• Uninstall the PPM Center Workbench components from a client machine
• Test and verify the success of an install


Module 6: System Maintenance


• Describe PPM’s file system structure
• Perform a basic maintenance routine on a PPM system
• Identify the types of logs a PPM server generates and plan the procedures
for purging and archiving the logs
• Use PPM’s server tools for monitoring system activities
• Identify backup and failover options that can be implemented for the PPM
system


Module 7: Maintaining Multiple Instances


• Describe the architecture of PPM migrators
• Configure PPM Center to be able to perform migration
• Use PPM migrators to migrate configuration entities


Module 8: Customizing the PPM Interface


• Identify the different types of PPM standard interface customizations that
are recognized by PPM and the impact of product upgrades on these
customizations
• Change the logo on the PPM standard interface to your company’s logo
• Change the color scheme on the PPM standard interface to your
company’s color scheme


Module 9: Advanced System Setup Options
• Explain the various advanced system setup options available
• Evaluate the benefits of the advanced system setup options for your
organization
